The Ministry of Catechist
The Catechist Ministry is critical in the formation of our young people. The Official Vatican website has an extensive article describing various traits and behaviors catechists should possess. This is a great resource for any practicing or beginner catechist. Please follow this
link for the catechists article.
If you are interested in serving in this way, you can contact Ms. Grace Curran at the parish
office.
What do catechists do?
As a catechist you have the privilege of supporting your brothers and sisters in their role as parents as well as being supported by the entire parish in your ministry!
In catechesis "Christ, the Incarnate Word and Son of God, . . . is taught—everything else is taught with reference to him—and it is Christ alone who teaches—anyone else teaches to the extent that he is Christ's spokesman, enabling Christ to teach with his lips. . . . Every catechist should be able to apply to himself the mysterious words of Jesus: ‘My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.'" CCC427
“The catechesis of children, young people, and adults aims at teaching them to meditate on The Word of God in personal prayer, practicing it in liturgical prayer, and internalizing it at all times in order to bear fruit in a new life…the memorization of basic prayers offers an essential support to the life of prayer, but it is important to help learners savor their meaning.CCC2688
Are you ready?
Wow, that is heavy stuff! Our first reaction might be “I can’t do that!” Yes, you can! Ask yourself: "What is essential in my life? What am I passionate about? What makes me feel real?" If your Catholic faith is any part of the answer to any of those questions, you can answer the call to serve.
Please consider sharing your faith as a catechist. Read the stories of others who answered the call.
Catechists share their stories.
VIRTUS® for Volunteers Working With Minors
