Parish Retreat
Monday, March 15th through 18th, a special parish retreat was offered with Fr. Jude Siciliano, OP from Raleigh, NC, and Sr. Patricia Bruno, OP from San Rafael, CA. The days of community prayer helped us deepen our faith, and affirm and support the gifts we have to share with one another.
Taize Prayer for Lent
On March 14th, at 7:00pm a tranquil candlelight service was featured here at St. John's the included prayerful music, scripture readings and prayers, all offered to draw us closer to the holiness of God. Taize-style worship is characterized by simple chants based on the Scriptures and periods of silence to create an environment for encountering the mystery of God. This time of quiet, gentle, communal prayer helped those who attended to relieve the stress in their lives, and allowed them to better focus on their Lenten journey.
Shrove Tuesday
Many took part in the centuries old tradition of living it up before Lent by enjoying a wonderful free supper consisting of pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon and more ...all the foods you told Fr. Chris you would avoid! Beyond such indulgences there was a "Pancake Flipping" contest where you could either watch or participate in a race to see how good you are with your "skillet skills". We all know you practiced everyday! (**more details soon)
